New Accompanist Announced
1 October 2022
Following auditions which were held as part of the choir’s
sectional day on Saturday 17 September 2022, we are delighted that
Jem Lowther has accepted our invitation to be only the ninth
accompanist in our eighty-six year history.
Jem Lowther
Jem was raised in Northamptonshire, and took his first organ
lessons at All Saints’ Church aged eleven. Educated as a Music
Scholar at Eton College, Jem then spent his gap-year working as an
organist in Washington D.C. and New York City. He then took up an
Organ Scholarship at Corpus Christi College Oxford, where he
graduated with a first-class degree in Music.
After Oxford, Jem was appointed Director of Music at All Saints’
Church, Northampton. In this rôle he has led the choir through
successive periods of change, and overseen the restoration of the
church’s splendid gallery organ. The church maintains two separate
treble lines as well as a successful choral scholarship programme.
These choruses are composed of youngsters from twenty-two different
schools. Between them, they sing at least three choral services each
week.
Jem is also a Musician in Residence with the David Ross Educational
Trust, which sees him working directly in schools, both primary and
secondary. He holds an ABRSM diploma in solo piano performance, as
is a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists. |
