Our MD begins with RLSBC
1 July 2020
Our Musical Director today took up
his new appointment as Musical Director of the Royal Leamington Spa
Bach Choir. He will work with RLSBC alongside us, and his other
choirs with the Huntingdonshire Philharmonic and Wellingborough
Singers. We are especially delighted that they have agreed that in
the present circumstances where we cannot meet in person to rehearse
that they will join with the other choirs in joint virtual Home
Choir from September, and to that end are joining in with the last
few weeks of our Howells project to get used to these strange
Zooming times.
Melanie Forse, Chairman of RLSBC writes:
I am truly excited to be
welcoming Lee to work with
the Royal Leamington Spa
Bach Choir, and I look
forward to his plans to
perform music from the
choir’s earlier directors,
as well as embarking on an
ambitious programme of
choral music, new and old.
Lee’s broad knowledge of the
repertoire and his
experience and enthusiasm
will serve to inspire all
our members to strive for a
very high standard of
performance.

RLSBC perform Mozart Requiem in 2019
|
At this stage it is difficult to say for sure when Lee’s first
concert with RLSBC will take place, but over the next two seasons
the choir is planning performances of works including Bach Mass in B
minor, Brahms Ein deutsches Requiem, Monteverdi Vespers, an
all-Mozart programme including the Coronation Mass and Solemn
Vespers, and a candlelit performance of Rachmaninov Vespers. He will
be giving an organ recital at the choir’s principal performance
venue, All Saints’ Church in Royal Leamington Spa, on Sunday 13
September at 3:00pm, including Smetana Vltava from Má Vlast,
Reincken An Wasserflüssen Babylon, and three short works by the late
Dr Stanley Vann, founding conductor of the Royal Leamington Spa Bach
Choir, and later Director of Music at Peterborough Cathedral.
