Our 'Friends' Scheme
Becoming a friend of the Northampton Bach Choir

Share your love of music by becoming a 'Friend'

Becoming a 'Friend' of the Northampton Bach Choir is the perfect way to support the great tradition of live music-making in our county. For a suggested minimum donation of £25 (£45 per couple) per annum, 'Friends' receive advance notification of forthcoming performances, and priority booking for our own concerts. In addition to these benefits, there are events for 'Friends' which include some pre-concert receptions, informative pre-concert talks by the Musical Director and informal social gatherings hosted by the Secretary to the Friends, Judy Ellwood and other Committee members.

Being a 'Friend' of the Northampton Bach Choir is not just about supporting them, it is feeling part of the choir without all the hard work the talented members put in to produce their concerts! That wonderful voice of the choir, under the skilled and innovative leadership of Lee Dunleavy, has led me to become an ardent 'Friend' with all the privileges this offers. I not only have booked front seats at their local concerts, but have travelled to Venice, Bruges, and the Netherlands with them, and heard them sing in St Paul's and Winchester Cathedrals. I have also had the opportunity to attend lectures by eminent musicians, to sing along with the choir, as well as being invited to social activities. In the process of doing all of this I have been thrilled by beautiful music, in beautiful settings, as well as making new likeminded friends; what could be better?

Rosemary Shaw, 'Friend' of the Northampton Bach Choir

Northampton Bach Choir delivered an amazing concert on 21st June 2025. It was a very big departure from usual and a brave choice of the Director, Simon Toyne. The accompanist, Jem Lowther, with his fellow Jazz Trio players, proved himself more than able to take on the challenge and deliver a stunning performance. The accompanying players are always first rate and the professional soloist for this concert, Sophie Taylor-Denton, was exceptional in vocal range and accuracy.

The Choir is used to singing big masses and oratorios and has previously ventured modern pieces in a variety of styles; but this first attempt at a whole evening of Jazz was a triumph. I can thoroughly recommend becoming a Friend of Northampton Bach Choir and am looking forward to the next season of concerts.
