Our Carol Festivities in Technicolour13 December 2014With just twelve days to go before the big day, Northampton Bach Choir invited the audience in the Main Hall of Northampton High School to get in the mood for Christmas – and indeed they did! Our compère for this festive evening was BBC Radio Northampton’s John Griff who did a fine job with his usual good humour and professional panache, and he undoubtedly sold a few more copies of Be Merry! – the choir’s latest CD – with his assiduous plugging! Our regular répétiteur, the excellent Stephen Meakins, was partnered at the piano by Chon Meng Lam on several of the evening’s pieces and performed an excellent solo version of Jingle Bells – a huge hit with the audience. Sadly, Stephen was performing his last duty for us and we will miss him at the start of the new term. As well as their own performances, the evening featured a number of traditional carols where the audience were invited to join in singing with the choir. And they did so, singing lustily and enthusiastically, particularly in The Twelve Days of Christmas. The choir are fond of the work of American composer Dan Forrest and he featured here with a rousing arrangement O Come All Ye Faithful and his own tender Carol of Joy. The programme featured carols ancient and modern – some with new arrangements – which delighted the audience in this excellent evening of festive entertainment. |
