#22for22 is launched
16 December 2021
Covid has hit all music-making groups hard. We have been so
fortunate to have an MD who has kept us going through the worst and
best of times, and who drove us straight into a recruiting drive the
moment we were back singing in person. Since we returned in
September 2021 we have gained a staggering 32 new members, giving us
around 45 sopranos, 40 altos, 20 tenors, and 20 basses - a total
membership approaching our 130 person minimum target.
Some of our 23 new members
The photo above shows some members who were recruited during our
first drive, and as you can see the vast majority were sopranos and
altos. In December 2021 we launched #22for22, our second drive. This
is targeted at recruiting 22 new tenors and basses for 22. From our
first round of auditions in #22for22 we recruited a further nine
tenors and basses, which brings us to the numbers listed above. It
has been a great delight to welcome so many new members … and indeed
a number of singers rejoining us after a number of years away from
the choir.

Our third round is now very much targeted at basses …
we’re after no fewer than ten more basses to join us. Our
next “open” rehearsal is on Monday 7 February 2022, with
auditions (they are very gentle and as painless as possible)
following shortly thereafter. This will be our first rehearsal for
our April 2022 concert performance of Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana,
which is a perfect piece for basses - wonderful lines - with every
possible emotion encompassed, and some of the best bass writing in
all of choral music. Why not contact Crawford (see
our Contact Us page) and see if you might be able to lend your
voice to our merry band! And for those sopranos, altos, and tenors
out there, please don’t hesitate to get in touch too. At the moment
we are operating a waiting list for these three voice parts, but the
sooner you are on the list, the sooner you get to the top when
vacancies arise!
