Britain’s leading choral composer and conductor, John Rutter CBE,
returns to Northampton! John invites you to sing a mixture of
choral music, old and new, familiar and unfamiliar, including a
selection of his most recent compositions, as well as choral
classics from his new book Sacred Choruses.
He started composing in his teens (alongside his classmate, the late
Sir John Tavener) and his work includes choral, orchestral and instrumental
pieces, a piano concerto, two children’s operas, music for
television, and specialist writing for such groups as the Philip
Jones Brass Ensemble and the King’s Singers. He has written for the
Queen's Golden Jubilee in St Paul's Cathedral, and the wedding of
the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
He collaborated with Sir David Willcocks on the four-volume series
Carols for Choirs, an indispensable compendium for choristers
around the world, and he has written several longer-form works that
have become popular favourites, including his Gloria, Magnificat,
and Requiem.
For many choirs, of course, no Christmas is complete without a
Rutter carol!
Copies will be provided and will also available for sale, as will be
recordings of all of John’s most popular works (and he will, of
course, be on hand to sign them!). Enthusiastic singers of all
levels are welcome to a hugely enjoyable day with this inspirational
teacher. Coffee/Tea will be available at Registration and during the
two breaks, but please bring a packed lunch with you (though there is
a branch Waitrose opposite the school).
Booking is now closed.
