The choir are joined by two stunning young pianists and BBC Radio
Northampton’s own John Griff to perform their biennial festive
Christmas celebration of Carols for All! The great majority
of the carols in the concert are featured on the choir’s 2010 CD
recording Congaudeat! and on their newly released disc Be
Merry! The former disc features carols by composers with
Northamptonshire connections – in this concert this includes
arrangements by Dunleavy, Tanner and Tyler. Our most recent disc,
recorded earlier this year, features North American arrangements for
choir and piano, and in tonight’s concert you hear work from this CD
by Betinis, Courtney, Forrest, Hayes and Hoelscher. The concert also
includes four carols – by Anglea, Cutler, Johnson and Spevacek –
from this CD which receive their European première performances in
tonight’s concert. There will be plenty of opportunity for the audience to join in – not least in the ever-popular setting of While shepherds watched to the tune familiarly known as On Ilkley moor baht 'at! This is our second Christmas concert at Northampton High School, and in our first concert we were so overwhelmed by the numbers of people who came, that some very uncomfortable and distant seating had to be found, and the sheer number of people gave us the unusual problem of the venue being too warm! For this concert, the seating arrangement in the hall will be completely rearranged so that the whole audience will be in comfort and joy and ventilation has been improved. The other benefits of the venue – plenty of parking and interval facilities – remain, and we hope you will join us again for a fresh look at the Christmas Story.
