We are delighted to join the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for our
unprecedented third joint concert of 2014. This concert opens the RPO’s season at the Royal and Derngate, and will be a special
evening of remembrance, commemorating the centenary of the First
World War (1914-18). The concert is packed full of reflective excerpts from some colossal choral works; from the glorious serene and peaceful melody of Fauré’s Pie Jesu and Rutter's soulful Lux æterna to the instantly recognisable power of Verdi's emotive Dies iræ. Amongst the Requiem excerpts, the Orchestra will perform music of war and peace, including Adrian Sutton’s epic orchestral Suite based on Michael Morpurgo’s novel War Horse, Karl Jenkins’ captivating Benedictus from his spectacular The Armed Man: a Mass for Peace and extracts from Holst’s The Planets, a suite of astrological portrayals of Mars, the bringer of War, and Venus, the bringer of Peace.
