Shakespeare in Song celebrates the 450th anniversary of the bard's
birth and is the European première of My Rose - 21st century
American composer Steve Dobrogosz's setting of some of Shakespeare's
best-known sonnets. The concert features Northampton Bach Choir - the region's largest and best known choral society - conducted by Lee Dunleavy - and accompanied by an orchestra of young musicians from NMPAT (Northamptonshire Music and Performing Arts Trust). There are solo performances from some of the country's leading professional artistes: soprano Philippa Hyde, contralto Jeanette Ager, tenor Paul Austin Kelly and bass Giles Underwood. The choir is supported by Madrigalis - Northampton Girls' School's senior choir. The evening promises to be a fascinating musical interpretation of Shakespeare's finest poetry. The work contains various musical styles - classical, jazz and musical theatre with a touch of romance and a pinch of humour thrown in.
